Appraiser Notes:
Please note that the central gem in this purse tests consistent with glass, different to the six surrounding natural emeralds. We wanted to honor the original condition in which we received this piece, and so we have left this green glass in place, as it is a testament to the long life of this purse and the storied journeys it has undoubtedly been on. We are more than happy to replace the glass with an emerald of the same size, upon request at no charge, as a complimentary a way to make this incredible item more tailored to you.
This purse features several stamps that appear to be the French owl import stamp for 18k gold, though the marks are worn. This stamp was implemented in 1893 and indicates gold items of 18k gold that were crafted elsewhere and then imported into France.
The wonderful engraved motifs include flowing flourishes, flowers, and a central flaming torch flanked by outstretched feathered wings. Their meaning is fascinating to ponder.

Every piece undergoes an intensive review based on GIA standards. We verify all gold and platinum materials through acid and advanced testing, examine gemstones with microscopes, refractometers, chelsea filters, and UV light, and evaluate construction, hallmarks, and craftsmanship to confirm authenticity.
Every purchase includes a detailed authentication report.
At Abbott & Oaks, authenticity is not assumed — it is proven. Every piece undergoes a rigorous, multi-step evaluation based on GIA (Gemological Institute of America) standards. Our process combines traditional expertise with advanced gemological tools to ensure you receive a piece you can trust.
1. Precious Metal Verification We test all gold and platinum materials through a two-step method:
Acid Testing: A proven field test to verify karat purity.
Electronic & Advanced Testing: For select pieces, we use precision tools to confirm metal content.
Hallmark & Construction Review: We closely inspect stamps, soldering methods, and fabrication details consistent with period craftsmanship.
2. Gemstone Evaluation Each gemstone is carefully examined to verify identity, quality, and authenticity:
Microscopic Inspection: We use gemological microscopes to evaluate inclusions, growth structures, and treatments.
Refractometer Testing: Refractive index readings help confirm gemstone species.
Chelsea Filter Analysis: To detect treatments and synthetics, especially in rubies, emeralds, and sapphires.
UV Fluorescence Testing: Ultraviolet light reveals diagnostic fluorescence patterns unique to certain gemstones.
Hand-Crafted vs. Machine-Made Analysis: We study fabrication techniques, hallmark styles, and design motifs to ensure consistency with the claimed period.
Wear Patterns: Genuine vintage pieces exhibit characteristic wear that modern replicas cannot easily replicate.
4. Advanced Testing Methods For select cases where further confirmation is needed, we employ:
Specific Gravity Testing: To differentiate natural from synthetic stones.
External Laboratory Verification: For high-value items, we may submit pieces to trusted third-party labs for XRF (X-ray fluorescence) or other advanced analysis.
5. Continuous Standards We continuously refine our standards to keep pace with advancements in gemology and metallurgy. Our mission is to preserve the integrity of every piece we offer.
I have a vintage charm bracelet with animal charms and needed another charm to fill an empty loop and this adorable goat charm is perfect! I love the fact that it is three-dimensional so it will look good no matter which way the charm is hanging.
I had bought this ring because my grandmother who had passed years prior, she always wore an Aquamarine ring that I loved. My birthstone is Sapphire. When I saw this ring, I immediately knew I had to have it since it has both Aquamarine & Sapphire stones, I saw it as sentimental. It is so stunning in person. I am a repeat customer of Abbott & Oaks due to their wonderful customer service & unique jewelry they offer.
Nothing short of exquisite! The way these move, the fine craftsmanship, that shiny, shiny gold. Once again A&O has sourced the best of the best. I'll be a customer for life.
This ring was gorgeous online when I saw it, but in real life words do not even DESCRIBE. Pictures do not do this piece justice and although it is 110+ years old (❤️) it looked BRAND NEW. Highly recommend this company! They're the real deal!
I'd been looking for a vintage 1940s white and yellow gold diamond line ring to add as an anniversary band to my family heirloom engagement and wedding ring set from the 1940s. I'd just about given up on finding a vintage ring and then this showed up! The ring matches my set so well. I wear it with the other two rings for a more formal look and substitute it in with only the wedding band for a more minimal look. It is so perfect, like it was meant to be!
This 14 karat yellow gold vintage wheat chain is the perfect length and style to complement the charm holder pendant I previously bought from Abbott & Oaks! It is a substantial chain that I know is strong enough to securely hold the pendant and charms. I am delighted with how it looks!
I was hesitant but so glad I chose to buy. I LOVE my band. It is so beautiful, fits perfectly, and the engraving inside from 1919 makes it even more precious. I wish I knew the stories it held, but we are making new ones to add. I hope it'll be passed to one of my daughters to love too.
Great company, fast shipping, exactly as described. Love it!
This is truly, such a beautiful ring. I am in love. We were looking for an antique ring to upgrade my engagement ring and I could not be more in love with this right. Abbot and Oaks is always our go to for high quality, one of a kind pieces.
Fantastic Star Sapphire ring with beautiful color changing and asterism effect. I can’t say enough good things about Abbott and Oaks; this is my fifth purchase, and I look forward to more!
I also appreciate that there are always several pieces available that are balanced enough for men too.
This stirrup-shaped pendant/charm holder is absolutely perfect to hold my antique and vintage equestrian-themed charms! It is very well-made and holds the charms securely.
I had four rings stolen by a cleaning service employee. All four had significant sentimental value. One was the aquamarine my parents gave me in 1997 to celebrate the birth of my first child. While nothing can ever replace what I had, the minute I saw this aquamarine I experienced such joy. It is vintage 90s and helped heal my heart. My daughter thought is was wonderful as well. It was more beautiful in person than in the photos too! I love it so much and I am a very satisfied customer.
Very happy with my purchase! The ring is beautiful and looks well made with excellent craftsmanship. Customer service was great throughout the process—responsive, helpful, and professional. Overall, a wonderful experience, and I'm very happy with my choice.
I was eyeing this necklace years ago, by the time I decided to go for it the company no longer makes them. This one was in excellent condition and well priced, I am so happy to have gotten it! Perfect colorful jewelry for the summer.
Absolutely stunning ring! As always, even more beautiful in person. I’ve been looking for the perfect vintage tanzanite ring and this was it! Thank you again Abbott & Oaks!
Got a great little pendant/charm.in the shape of a matador jacket. definitely a little expensive for what it is. I got it because it looked adorable enough for regular wear and I've been looking for interesting pieces.
I loved the whole experience! It was very easy to purchase and get resized! It came when it said it would and looks and feels so nice on my hand! I love the addition to my collection!
It was so fun to look at all the beautiful pieces and choose 1 that I just fell in love with. It was a big decision and a rep from Abbott & Oak was there to answer all my questions and with their return policy it took away the concern I had if I didnt like what I chose that I would have to keep it. I can't wait to pick something again in the future and I love my ring!
Absolutely stunning pendant! And just like every piece I’ve purchased from Abbott & Oaks, it’s even more beautiful in person than it was in the photos. Thank you again!
